Teams with Toronto Roller Derby (ToRD) proved too strong for visiting teams from Sudbury and Kalamazoo during doubleheader action on Feb. 26.

It was all Toronto as two visiting teams went down in flames during a Toronto Roller Derby (ToRD) doubleheader Feb. 26, 2011.

The evening started with a match between ToRD's D-VAS vs. Sudbury's Nickel City Roller Derby Slag Sisters.

While Sudbury's first-ever derby team put up a fight, trailing just 31-25 at the half, the D-VAS, with coaching from retired ToRD star jammer Lunchbox along with Raunchy Hextall, pulled it together and rolled to a 71-38 victory.

Following some nifty skating from Toronto Junior Roller Derby players during the halftime show, it was time for the highly-anticipated headline bout – ToRD's travel team, CN Power, against the Killimazoo Derby Darlins.

It was the first time CN Power has stuck with a permanent roster, and on Feb. 26 the team also had the managing experience of His Unholiness, The Rev. Ramirez (who is normally seen guiding the ToRD champion Gore-Gore Rollergirls) with coaching assistance from Sonic Doom.

While Killimazoo came out hitting hard, CN Power relied on speed and strategy for an early 27-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game.

The Darlins finally put some points on the board, closing the gap to 27-4, but CN Power continued its beating, amassing 61 points before Lady Hawk of the Darlins managed to gather two more points for her team.

Toronto's blockers spent some time in the penalty box, but Killamazoo's jammers were called on infractions, including an insubordination call against the Darlins' Lily St. Smear handed out by referee Hot Carl.

By the end of the first half, CN Power had gained a huge 112-10 lead, with many spectators choosing to leave ToRD's venue (The Hangar in Downsview Park) at that point.

The second half started much the same, in favour of CN Power, as lead jammer Land Shark started things off with a double grand slam for 11 points.

With Land Shark in the penalty box, Killamazoo's Sparkills answered by grabbing eight points for her squad.

With the score at 123-18, CN Power again turned on the jets, widening the gap to 167-18 before the visiting team's Rosie Ferocious lit up the board for nine points to put the score at 170-27 about halfway through the second half.

With 13 minutes left in the match, CN Power blocker Mega Bouche was ejected for diving. However, Killamazoo failed to capitalize on the star blocker's absence, earning more penalties of its own as the home team continued to stack up points.

In the end, a tired-looking CN Power team was able to secure a very convincing 197-35 victory.
